Traditional standardized assessments designed to provide measures of intelligence, personality, interest, etc., have consistently failed to provide complete, direct and functionally relevant information for persons with cognitive disabilities. Various forces in rehabilittition have long sought innovative assessments that provide functional information directly pertinent to everyday life. This manuscript describes an assessment paradigm that combines traditional psychometric evaluation and situational assessment through an intensive case study approach. The coordination of service, assessments and the benefits for both the participant and the referring agency are presented from referral to job placement. |
