Abstrakt: Five patients with gangrenous ulcers on the feet due to obliterative arterial disease were treated as outpatients by combining conventional therapy (bed positioning, tobacco abstinence, exercise) with pharmacologically induced moderate hypertension. Fludrocortisone acetate or desoxycorticosterone acetate were given in combination with sodium chloride so that a rise of about 15 mm. Hg in mean arterial blood-pressure was maintained over a period of several months. In all patients the gangrenous ulcers healed during the treatment. There were no side-effects other than moderate fluid retention.
