Abstrakt: We tell the animal science story to students in much the same way that the engineers tell their story, or the art historians, or the accountants: We sit the students down in a classroom and lecture at them from lofty ivory towers—or so it might seem. But there must be more to it than this, because, despite the lack of any conscious attempt at a recruitment program, the size of our audience has been increasing and the listeners seem more intent on what we are saying. As instructors, we haven't changed. We have always applied our energies to areas we felt worthwhile. Now, it would seem, others are agreeing with our thinking that the animal science profession has a real future. The delightful aspect of this is that these others are showing their agreement by sitting in lecture with competent animal scientists in ever-in-creasing numbers. Now, if one is to be an animal science teacher or story teller of any renown, there are certain basics which must be met.
