Abstrakt: A series of six experiments was conducted to determine the influence of 0, 30, 60 or 120 mg of ronidazole/kg of diet on the rate and efficiency of gain of pigs fed from 5–8 to 20 weeks of age. The greatest rate and efficiency of gain occurred at the 60 mg/kg level, and both responses were significantly quadratic (P<.05). In two trials where 5-week-old pigs were fed 0, 30, 60 or 120 mg of ronidazole/kg for 9 weeks, the gain response was linear (P<.05) and curvilinear (P<.05), and pigs fed 120 mg/kg gained most rapidly, however, there was no effect on feed efficiency. In a nitrogen balance trial 120 mg of ronidazole/kg of diet had no influence on nitrogen digestibility or retention. In two feeding trials using 7- or 12-week-old pigs, the highest level of ronidazole in the diet that would not result in reduced gain when fed was estimated to be between 400 and 800 mg/kilogram. Ronidazole at 1,200 mg/kg produced a marked depression in rate of gain of pigs.
