An improved gasliquid chromatographic procedure for the plasma level determination of amitriptyline and nortriptyline using nitrogensensitive detectors is described. Derivatization of the secondary amines using trifluoroacetic anhydride greatly improves the response and reproducibility of the assay. Plasma samples containing as little as 5 ngml of amitriptyline and nortriptyline can be assayed precisely and reproducibly, using protriptyline as internal reference standard. |
