Advances in evaluation and treatment of pediatric musculoskeletal infections included studies cautioning the use of ultrasound in diagnosing septic arthritis and the identification of “spine at risk” signs for the development of post tubercular kyphosis. The use of sequential bone scans and bone marrow scans was shown to reliably differentiate osteomyelitis from bone infarction in sickle cell patients. Musculoskeletal tumor studies focused on various treatment options for unicameral bone cysts and osteoid osteomas. Limb salvage results were examined for oncologic and functional results in sarcoma surgery, with special attention to limb salvage in the setting of pathologic fractures. The use of large structural bone allografts was examined histologically. |
