Derangement of the control of vascular tone is emerging as a fundamental mechanism in the pathophysiology of hypertension. Recently reported findings highlight the complex role of the endothelium in regulating the balance between vasodilate and vasoconstrictive mediators. The mechanism of action of many vasodilate agents in clinical use can be explained by their influence on their physiological balance. |
