Modern thin spinal needles with cutting bevel or pencilpoint needles have not reduced neurological complications after spinal anaesthesia. Pencil-point needles have certain advantages compared with cutting needles and the incidence of postdural puncture headache has decreased with their use. However, the significance of maldistribution of local anaesthetic solution observed experimentally in association with pencil-point needles needs further clinical evaluation. |
