Discipline is a problem that physical educators face daily, and punishment is the common method for dealing with it. Punishment frequently solves immediate problems; but in the long run, it may not be in the best interest of either the students or the physical educator. If punishment causes students to withdraw from situations physically or mentally, avoid further contact with sport and physical activity, respond less creatively, show aggression, use punishment with others, or suffer humiliation, perhaps it should be questioned as the preferred way to maintain discipline. |
