Abstrakt: Penetrating corneal homotransplants were performed in albino rabbits. The animals were subsequently exposed to an additional antigenic stimulus from the donor animal consisting of an implantation of donor skin to the ventral wall of the abdomen. This procedure produces a uniformly high rate of corneal graft rejection. Treatment with horse antirabbit lymphocyte serum was initiated immediately after the skin implantation or 1 week later. The short-term results obtained in the group receiving immediate treatment were somewhat better than those in the delayed treatment group. The long-term results demonstrated no difference between treatment groups. Either treatment schedule markedly inhibited the rejection phenomenon. The significance of these findings is discussed.
