Abstrakt: Different antisera used to detect a particular transplantation antigen often give different results with the cells of one donor. It is, therefore, difficult to decide, on the basis of apparently contradictory results, whether an individual has a particular antigen. To minimize the chances of an erroneous decision, each typing serum was given a numerical score, which is a measure of its reliability to detect a given antigen. This score takes into account the incidence of the antigen in the population and the degree of similarity of the reactions of the typing serum with those of internationally recognized sera of the same specificity. When several sera are used to detect one antigen, the product of their respective scores is compared to a threshold value which determines the presence or absence of the antigen. This decision rule was applied to five anti-4A sera and proved to be superior to the majority decision rule.
