Abstrakt: Genital herpes simplex infections represent a major public health problem for which there are no adequate control measures. Trials of acyclovir have been promising but not conclusive. The present multicenter collaborative trial was designed to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of orally administered acyclovir in the treatment of recurrent disease and to assess the effect of therapy initiated by patients when symptoms of recurrence were first noted.
