In ∼4 of pregnancies, the fetus is in breech presentation at delivery. Hypotheses to explain breech presentation have considered mostly mechanical factors, although common obstetric wisdom also includes breech presentation as more likely when an anomaly is present. If breech presentation is truly a marker for underlying abnormality, its presence near term may suggest careful evaluation of fetalnewborn anatomy and function. |
