Counseling and management of women at risk for delivering during the periviable period (2007through 2567weeks) is challenging because difficult decisions must be made in emotional circumstances. This report summarizes a 2013 workshop held at the annual meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. The authors review the benefits and risks of obstetric and neonatal interventions related to periviable birth, outline counseling measures, describe newborn outcomes, and discuss research-education factors for treating these patients. |
