A commercially available digital video processor, capable of recursive signal averaging and motion detection, has been used in conjunction with a standard x-ray fluoroscopy device for creating noise reduced still frames of arterial exams without the need for spot films. The unit digitizes each video frame (1/30 sec) into a 480x760 matrix of pixels. Each pixel is digitized to 256 levels (8 bits). The signal averaging capability can reduce the noise per video frame by a maximum factor of 5.6 compared to a standard video still frame. This means that the noise levels in the noise reduced still frames are equivalent to what would occur without signal averaging at a factor of 28 (=(5.62)) greater dose rate. |
