Abstrakt: Thyroid nodules are frequently seen in the general population. Preoperative discrimination between benign and malignant nodules is essential to avoid unnecessary surgery. Fine-needle aspiration cytology has greatly improved the clinical management of thyroid nodules. Follicular neoplasms, representing the indeterminate group by fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), constitute a diagnostic problem. The aim of the study was to assess the diagnostic effect of galectin-3 and minichromosome maintenance protein2 (MCM2) expression in distinguishing benign from malignant thyroid nodules preoperatively.
