Abstrakt: Indirect immunofluorescent technique directed at factor VIII-related anti gen was used to examine the cellular lining of short PTFE vascular grafts re placing a portion of common iliac artery in dogs. The innermost cellular monolayer was determined as true endothelium. The pannus developed from both anastomotic ends of the host artery and strongly supported the overlying endothelium. Endothelial damage occurred in the areas without tissue support underneath. Complete endothelialization played an important role in maintain ing graft patency.
