Abstrakt: Liver function of sheep was progressively and adversely reduced by daily oral administration of either carbon tetrachloride or the consumption of copper sulphate. Oral challenge with urea (0·3 s gl kg liveweight) led to progressive increases in blood ammonia concentrations which were associated with deteriorating liver function. Death from ammonia toxicosis occurred in all sheep when BSP clearance was below35% and when plasma SGOT activities exceeded600 SF units.
