Recent Pedestrian Planning Issues and Initiatives in Japan and South Korea

Abstrakt: Pedestrians in Japan and South Korea have faced many simiar challenges in the years since their countries have become motorized. The history of pedestrian transport issues in the to countries is discussed, along with several strategies of the Japanese and South Korean goverments to meet motorized transport challenges. The most recent comprehensive, neighborhood-wood traffic schemes in each country—Japan’s “community zones” and South Korea’s Site Traffic Mangement program—are also introduced.
