Abstrakt: A case of myxoedematous coma in a young woman is described. The patient had been treated with good results since infancy with desiccated thyroid but deteriorated after using a thyroid preparation of very low activity for a year. Although there was severe hypothermia on admission the patient survived. Treatment consisted of triiodothyronine orally, and corticosteroids. A tracheotomy had to be performed. The biological inactivity of the drug responsible for the coma was demonstrated by the goiter prevention test.
