Abstrakt: |
A syndrome consisting of retarded growth, »pterygium colli« and cubitus valgus was first described by Turnerin 1938. Since then several papers have been published giving a more accurate description of the condition as well as contributing to the understanding of the syndrome as part of the endocrine pathology of the ovary. In previous papers we have proposed the name »Rudimentary ovary syndrome« (1947–1951) in accordance with Turner's original conception, since the term »agenesia ovarica«, suggested by Wilkins(1944) does not correspond to the anatomical facts found in several patients in whom there had been biopsy of the ovary. Some of the publications refer only partially or incidentally to treatment, without giving details of the methods employed or results obtained; thus, Hortling & Jäämeri(1953) discuss 6 cases treated with oestrogens, methyl testosterone and thyroid preparations.
