PSEUDOHYPOPARATHYROIDISM

Abstrakt: Pseudohypoparathyroidism is a relatively rare disorder, chiefly characterized by evidence of chronic parathyroid insufficiency, shortening of metacarpal and metatarsal bones and soft tissue calcifications. Patients with pseudohypoparathyroidism often show a typical body habitus with short stature and round face. In 1954 MacGregor & Whiteheadcollected 25 cases from the literature and added three cases of their own. They pointed out that in addition several patients reported under various conditions possibly represent cases of pseudohypoparathyroidism, though proof for this is lacking.A few cases have been described from Scandinavia. Lachman(1941) reported three adult patients (two sisters and their brother) as cases of »idiopathic hypoparathyroidism«. There are, however, reasons for believing that the diagnosis in these cases should have been pseudohypoparathyroidism.
