Abstrakt: Thorough cleaning of the endoscope and its accessories is the most important part of the decontamination process. The disinfectant of choice is still 2% glutaraldehyde, with a 4- to 10-minute exposure time between patients and 20 minutes at the end of an endoscope session or if M. tuberculosisis considered to be a hazard. Glutaraldehyde is an irritant and is toxic, and special precautions are necessary to prevent damage to the health of staff.
