Abstrakt: The polyposis syndromes are characterized by the presence of multiple polyps affecting the intestinal lining. The adenomatous polyposes are associated with an elevated risk of gastrointestinal malignancy. The familial hamartomatous polyposes carry a risk of polyp-related complications and may also be associated with an increased risk of gastrointestinal cancers. The role of endoscopic screening and surveillance is described in detail for familial adenomatous polyposis, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, and juvenile polyposis.
