This article reviews current issues in chemotherapeutic management of advanced breast cancer. Indications for initiation of therapy, duration of therapy, and expectations of therapy are discussed. Single agent and combination regimens are reviewed, and their potential roles in treatment of new metastases and salvage situations are evaluated. Promising novel treatment strategies are explored. The importance of effective palliation and perceived quality of life are emphasized. |
