Abstrakt: •First study to identify antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) in root canals in Mexico.•Six ARGs and seven bacterial taxa were assessed.•Very high prevalence and diversity of ARGs in the samples.•Post-treatment disease group harboured more ARGs compared with primary infection group.•Most frequent ARG was tetW, whereas tetQand cfxAwere not detected in any case.
