Abstrakt: •Nonlinear chemical dynamics are modeled by a modified Van der Pol-Duffing oscillator with asymmetric potential.•Chaotic motions are predicted analytically and numerically.•Bifurcations and routes to chaos are seriously investigated.•The constraint parameter effect on chaotic motions is particularly pointed out.
