Abstrakt: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is an emerging treatment option in psychiatry for major depressive disorder, commonly known as depression. Many randomised control trials (RCTs) have been conducted, but results from individual studies are not convincing enough for scholars to arrive to a sound conclusion. This article features a systematic review of RCTs that was conducted by independent reviewers to evaluate the effectiveness of left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex high frequency rTMS over sham rTMS in patients with depression. The quality of studies included was assessed and a meta-analysis was carried out. Nine potential studies were selected. The selected studies were diverse as the I-square and chi-square statistics were high, and because of this the results were interpreted in conjunction with the limitations. Moreover, it is desired that mental health professionals in this area can use rTMS as a management strategy for depression by using the following findings.
