Abstrakt: Various members of the scientific community have proposed that plant experiments be performed on board the space shuttle. To permit the proper execution of most tests, the craft must contain a plant‐growth chamber which controls those environmental factors which can influence a plant's physiology and morphology. In this paper, the various needs of, and environmental factors affecting plants in such a space chamber, have been identified. A set of design, construction, and performance limits which are compatible with both physiological requirements and constraints imposed by the space shuttle have been proposed. These specifications are presented in the hope of stimulating input from the scientific community so that the final chamber design selected by NASA will be representative of botanists' needs.
