Abstrakt: Of the five Nubian goats and three Desert sheep given daily oral doses of 10 and 5g/kg/day of the fresh shoots of Heliotropium ovalifoliumall showed signs of poisoning and two goats died. The clinical signs of inappetence, dullness, dyspnoea, loss of condition, impaction of the rumen and recumbency were more marked in goats and were correlated with the pathological changes. There was an increase in the activity of aspartate aminotransferase and in the concentration of ammonia and an inconsistent decrease in the level of calcium in the serum of heliotropium-poisoned animals. Haematological changes indicated the development of normocytic normochromic anaemia.
