An affordable, high fidelity closed-box speaker system was created by analyzing and controlling a subwoofer in a sealed enclosure in the 20Hz-100Hz frequency region. The SPL response was improved through achieving a flatter frequency response and lower distortion. Hardware-implemented, PI-based and LQG/LTR controlled systems designs both achieved satisfactory results that agreed well with the predictions. Both controlled systems measurably outperformed the stand-alone speaker with flatter frequency response, lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), and robustness against total sensor failure. |
