An overview of“visual form” theories and concurrent research is briefly presented. It is demonstrated that terms used are either implicitly defined or that authors employ collections of synonyms. The result is confusion over what is meant by“visual form” within and between groups of theorists and researchers, as well as within specialized areas and the field of vision research in general. This overview is followed by (a) an explanation why“visual form” is presently“undefined,” (b) discrete definitions of historically persistent terms, and (c) a plan for establishing a standardized vocabulary in scientific psychology. |
