Abstrakt: •With limited resources and a lack of curative therapies, clinically treating patients with dementia has many inherent challenges that are compounded by end-of-life issues.•Palliative care approaches can be adapted to improve the quality of life and relieve suffering for patients with dementia and their families.•This clinical review examines the literature regarding pain assessment and management, advance care planning and medical management as applied to dementia care.
