This article discusses three different methods of developing an intelligent system for diagnostic decission support. Three software development techniques (database language, expert system shell, neural network) were used to construct a system (BRAINDEX, Brain Death Expert System) which should assist a physician in the difficult task of diagnosing brain death and coma stages, In addition to the various possibilities of developing such a system, this article describes the advantages and disadvantages of each method from the developer's point of view as well as from the user's. |
