Abstrakt: Previous work by our group has shown that the application of texture analysis to digitally recorded radiofrequency ultrasonic signals can provide useful diagnostic information in diffuse liver disease. It has now been investigated whether similar information can be obtained with demodulated signal data and established that reduced diagnostic accuracy due to an increased false negative rate results. From this study it would seem unlikely that ultrasonic image data stored in a digital scan converter could provide results as good as those obtainable from the analysis of radiofrequency signals.
