Poisoning cases often require special effort. This article discusses the multi-step, systematic approach to arriving at a diagnosis in a suspect poisoning case in a horse. Identifying the nature and source of the toxic agent in a timely fashion is crucial for the immediate and appropriate treatment of sick animals and for the prevention of illness in additional animals. Thorough historytaking, clinical examination, appropriate specimen collection, and consultation with a veterinary toxicologist and a diagnostic laboratory are important steps to a successful outcome. |
