| Abstrakt: |
The incidence of shunt infection after ventriculoatriostomy was reviewed in 104 patients undergoing 160 operations. A shunt infection was identified within 6 mo after operation in 20% of the 105 operations in which prophylactic antibiotics were not used, and in only 5% after 55 operations in which they were given. This suggests that the prophylactic use of antimicrobial drugs after shunt operations may have merit. |
