Abstrakt: It has been known for years that partial remission of malignant growths have been associated with concomitant infections by viruses or bacteria. This apparent increase in host resistance to cancer has been particularly observed in patients with tuberculosis. The ever increasing knowledge that viruses and bacteria have the capacity to enhance the host’s natural resistance to cancer is clinically significant. It is predicted that the nonspecific immunologic boost by such agents as the tuberculous B.C.G. vaccine will be a valuable adjunct to cancer surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy in improving cancer survival. “Sooner or later, we shall prevent human cancers with vaccines, and cure them with vaccines, antisera and other measures which strengthen natural resistance.”
