•The properties of Eu3+doped sulfide borate glass and crystal is examined.•The correlation of structure and the vibrational of BO4and SO4in glass and crystal are presented.•The PL spectra reveal reduction of Eu3+to Eu2+in the crystal system.•The differences in the local structure around Eu3+lead to the different fluorescence characteristics in glasses and crystals. |
