1.The response to a bronchodilator of a series of patients with asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or a combination of these has been studied and compared with a group of patients suffering from other miscellaneous conditions.2.Although the mean improvement after a bronchodilator in patients with asthma alone or combined with chronic bronchitis is significantly better than the improvement in chronic bronchitis alone or combined with emphysema, the degree of overlap is so great that a diagnosis based on reversibility is of little use in the individual case.3.The additive effects of a bronchodilator and corticosteroids in asthma alone or combined with chronic bronchitis have been demonstrated. |
