Abstrakt: The study of clonality in females is a useful tool in assessing states of neoplastic cell expansion in myeloid malignancies and remission status after chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant. Various experimental techniques have been developed based on the Lyon Hypothesis of X chromosome inactivation in females. Specific enzymes are utilised to distinguish active from inactive X chromosomes, distinctive patterns of which are then visualised by Southern blotting or more recently PCR. A valuable contribution to the nature of myeloid malignancies has been gained by these means.
