Abstrakt: Patients treated with conservative surgery and radiotherapy for early-stage breast carcinoma are at risk for an ipsilateral breast recurrence for a long time. Because the salvage rate in these recurrences is high, careful life-long follow-up is a critical part of patient care. Although the findings usually are unambiguous, physical examination of the treated breast may reveal changes secondary to surgery or radiQtherapy that can mimic a recurrent cancer. Also, there is substantial overlap in the radiologic appearance of benign and malignant lesions. Therefore, it frequently is necessary to resort to biopsy when there is a question of recurrence.
