The diagnosis of and operative treatment for injury to the spleen, pancreas, and liver are discussed. In pancreatic injury, the surgeon must obtain adequate evaluation, accept more conservative therapy as far as gastrointestinal anastomoses and resection are concerned, and be prepared to deal with complications related to activation of pancreatic enzymes and subsequent infection. Hepatic trauma can be handled with simple techniques, with close attention to local hemostasis and adequate drainage. |
