To study population genetics and facilitate species identification, we developed 21 polymorphic microsatellite loci for Cryptotympana atrata(Fabricius), a widespread insect that makes a loud, high-pitched noise. Polymorphisms detected in 28 individuals ranged from 2 to 18 alleles per locus. The observed and expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.0714 to 0.9286 and from 0.0689 to 0.9082, respectively. The polymorphic information content value ranged from about 0.0670 to 0.9017. One locus showed low polymorphism (PIC <0.25) and two loci showed moderate polymorphism (0.25 < PIC < 0.5), while the rest were highly polymorphic (PIC >0.5). Three loci showed significant deviations from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium after Bonferroni correction. These microsatellite markers will be useful tools for the conservation genetic study of this species. |
