This paper presents an evaluation of the results obtained by the use of cytology in the detection of cervical malignancy by physicians engaged in varied fields of medicine, submitted to a single group of pathologists, and also a critical evaluation of the follow-up of positive and suspicious smears. In this analysis of smears, both premalignant and borderline lesions, i.e., carcinoma in situ and severe atypical epithelial hyperplasia of the cervix, have been included under malignancies of the cervix. |
