The incidence of currently used predictors of serious neonatal infection has been determined in 207 uninfected newborn infants. These results indicated that criteria used to predict the newborn infant at risk for serious infection (chorioamnionitis, funisitis, and gastric aspirate analysis) offer no more than clinical criteria used to select infants at high risk for infection. |
