The individual behavior of any specimen of abnormal trophoblast is practically unpredictable from its histology. In an effort to find a more effective technique, explant culture of 14 trophoblastic tumors, including one destructive mole, 9 hydatidiform moles, and 4 partial moles, was carried out. Two types of growth, one with epitheloid element predominating and the other with stromal element predominating, were observed, the former in destructive mole cultures and the latter in partial mole cultures. Determination of the sex chromatin of the explant culture cells indicated a higher female incidence (71.4 per cent) in these tumors originating among the Chinese of Taiwan. |
