Abstrakt: 1.1. One hundred consecutive primigravidas who met the requirements of established labor with 4 cm. of cervical dilation were given 80 mg. of a commercial preparation of the hormone relaxin in divided doses.2.2. A control group was selected of 100 consecutive primigravidas who met these requirements but received no relaxin.3.3. The time interval from 4 cm. of dilation to complete dilation, as well as the stages and total duration of labor, were measured and recorded.4.4. There was no significant difference in the duration of the measured interval or in the various stages or total duration of labor between the group receiving relaxin and the control group.5.5. Relaxin administration appeared to have an accelerating rather than a slowing effect on the premature labors included in this series.6.6. Palpable softening of the cervix was not a striking feature following relaxin administration in this series.
