Various parasites can infect both companion animals and humans, and the epidemiology of some is changing. Such changes can be attributed to climate change, pet travel and altered ecological relationships. Additionally, newly acquired knowledge on the nature and impacts of parasites alters our perception of their zoonotic risks, and should influence approaches to diagnosis, control and advice in veterinary practice. This article sets out to provide an update on the epidemiology of selected emerging parasitic zoonoses in dogs and cats. |
