Abstrakt: 1.1. Six patients with term pregnancies were selected for recording of the action of progesterone upon the oxytocic effect of estradiol-17β, upon the action of oxytocin and upon spontaneous labor.2.2. Progesterone administered by intravenous drip in doses of 400 to 2,000 μg per minute may diminish or inhibit the uterine activity elicited by estradiol-17β.3.3. In 2 cases, the contractions produced by oxytocin were not inhibited by progesterone.4.4. In a single case where the uterine activity of a patient in spontaneous labor was recorded, 2,000 μg per minute (40 μg per 100 plasma per minute) of progesterone given intravenously also markedly reduced the activity.
